Fans of The Chainsmokers have probably been feeling a little hard done by in recent months with the DJ duo failing to keep up their standard of releasing new music every six weeks. The EP, “Sick Boy” has so far yielded five new songs including the recently released “Side Effects”, which has been heralded by Rolling Stone as a return to their previous best upbeat songs features on the debut album, “Memories… Do Not Open.”
Alongside the release of the single, “Side Effects” has also become one of the most eagerly anticipated music videos of 2018 after the announcement of the star, Camila Mendes. The “Riverdale” actress features in the lead role in the Matthew Dillon Cohen directed video as Riley, a put-upon hotel worker who is forced to work the weekend. After receiving the bad news that her weekend plans have been ruined, Riley does not wallow in self-pity but takes the opportunity to dance around the deserted, neon-lit hotel. Mendes shows off her dancing skills as the upbeat track pounds along in to bring the Summer of 2018 to a close.
The Chainsmokers have been building a strong following since before 2012 when Alex Pall worked with another DJ under the name. After being left alone, Pall continued The Chainsmokers alongside new collaborator, Andrew Taggart as New York City DJs. Taggart had dreams of becoming more than simply a DJ while Pall was ready to throw in his day job and concentrate on music full-time.
By 2015, the duo had recorded and released their debut single, “#Selfie” and took the decision to develop their music by stepping into the writer’s room. The back catalog of songs created by Taggart and Pall resulted in the gold-certified debut album, “Memories… Do Not Open.” The Chainsmokers have been breaking down fences in the music industry since they hit the mainstream by providing vocals for their own songs and playing a major role in the writing process.
